I’ve finally finished the first part of my New Year’s resolution—a pair of handknit socks for myself! They were more expensive than those packs of 6 pairs you can buy for a few bucks, but they’re better all-around in terms of the environment, labor, and fabulousness.
The Other Portland conference raised some interesting questions about art, the environment, and the nature of nature. The exhibit is at the Portland Art Center until 2/24/07—check it out!
All of the things that could be great about having a magazine online seem to be lost on the creators of Portovert. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the second issue makes good on the early claims.
Today is winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. Darkness will fall early this evening, and tomorrow the light will start to creep back a little at a time.
Despite a couple of oversights, I think Living Green by Greg Horn is worth a quick read, and it would make a great, cheap, last-minute gift to just about anybody.
Just wanted to remind everybody that Green Drinks is happening again tonight at 7pm at the Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar.
With the Salvation Army bell–ringers on every corner and Christmas music pouring from the radio, I can’t ignore the “holiday” madness any longer. I thought I might share a few of my holiday tips to avoid stress, save money, and generally get more out of the holidays.

Green Drinks is coming together here in Charlottesville tonight at 7pm at the Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar!
Green Drinks next Tuesday, join your CSA now, and don’t screw up the beer cap magnets the way I did!
I’m being cautiously optimistic about the Senate race here in Virginia. According to the numbers, Jim Webb finally has a narrow lead over Allen, but there’s already murmurs about a recount.
Today on Groxie: green your eats, expand your housing options with a little inspiration, and waste time looking at adorable critters. Ben and Jerry’s is moving in the right direction, and can you build a house from scraps?
For some, the end of October marks the beginning of a new year. Many neo—pagans celebrate Samhain, looking back on the year that was and on those who have passed on, and looking forward the the year that is beginning. I love the idea of taking a serious account of what has happened in the last year—it’s a good reminder of how much I can accomplish even when I feel like the days are shooting by.
There are some fruits and veggies that incorporate pesticides into themselves more readily than others. By avoiding the big culprits (or only buying them organically grown), you can reduce your pesticide exposure by 90%!
Yes indeed, we sold our television. Now when I want to unwind, I might just have to sit with a glass of wine and pet my kitties or enjoy the mountain view.
I just wanted to apologize for not posting lately. We are in the full swing of wedding crap, and time is flying by. We’ve been cleaning and baking like mad, and the guests have already started pouring into town.
Right now in my apartment we have no power. It has been out for about 5 hours or so, and I’m pretty certain it won’t come back on tonight. Even though I have lost out on a night of one kind of productivity, it has been replaced with something more valuable.
