Post-Thanksgiving Detox

Sorry about being a slacker last week—I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. Other than the outrageous amount of driving we had to do, we had a great time seeing family and eating enough to feed a small nation.

After all of that road food and Thanksgiving gorging, I need to get my health back on track. I’ve been feeling sluggish and generally blah. I’ve also been fighting off a nasty cold for over a month now; the yucky cold plus recent over–eating have finally motivated me to get back in gear.

This week, I’m cutting out all wheat and dairy (I’m actually allergic to wheat, but I still sneak it in pretty frequently), and I’m trying to dramatically increase my intake of fruits and veggies, especially raw ones. My daily diet looks something like this but with less specialty items and more plain produce. After a week, or maybe two, of eating very carefully, I think I’ll fast for one day just to finish it off.

I’ve read plenty of anecdotes about how a detox diet like this can give you more energy and help you refocus. I’m not sure how much I believe the stories, but I’m willing to give it a shot. I would love to regain my energy and momentum to finish off the year. I’ll let you know how it goes. In the meantime, has anyone else tried something like this? Did it work?
