Free Environmental Education
September 27thI’ve been jealously watching all of my student friends settle back into another semester. I do plan on going to graduate school one of these days, but I’m not quite ready for the time and money drain. In the meantime, I still want to make up for my undergraduate indecision and develop a stronger grasp of environmental isssues (and foreign languages).
Lifehacker had a great article yesterday about free online courses, and I’ve been sorting through the many links. I’ve pulled out some of the ones that seem promising and somehow relevant to the environment. Check out the original post if you want to do your own digging.
- Physical Geography - via the Sofia Project.
- A large list of webcasts and podcasts as well as GoogleVideo from Berkeley - including some Bio and Chem courses.
- A few individual lectures from Princeton that run the gamut from politics to poetry, and of course, the environment.
- Biology from Carnegie Mellon.
- Environmental Health from John’s Hopkins.
- International Nutrition from John’s Hopkins.
- Many interesting environmental lectures from the WGBH forum.
- Tons of different Life Sciences courses from U of Illinois, with varying levels of resource availability.
- Oceanography from the U of South Australia.
- MIT offers pretty much everything you could possibly want (thanks Andrew!).
I am hoping to get my hands on a few cheap textbooks from Half.com and get started on a course. In the meantime, I’m planning on checking out some of the individual lectures. If you find one that is particularly fascinating let me know!
